Kitsap County Court is also known as Kitsap County Superior Court. Whoever brings matters before the court should be familiar with the Kitsap County Local Court Rules. This includes pro se litigants. Printed copies of the Kitsap County Local Court Rules are available for review at the Superior Court Administration Office. Counsel, or parties appearing without counsel, shall be responsible for filing of bench copies. Bench copies are mandatory for all hearings for which pleadings have been filed. All settlement conferences, support modification hearings, adoption hearing, and motions/hearings noted for court calendars, except those matters specifically set by a judge, must be confirmed.

This courtroom is equipped with FTR Gold Recording system. Depending on the judicial officer assigned, a court reporter may be used. TV/VCR/DVD, digital overhead projector, digital presenter, screen, and standard overhead projector are available on a reservation basis Kitsap County Judges and staff are not allowed to provide legal advice. Kitsap County Judges may not receive ex parte communications in person, by phone or email.

As the "peoples court" the Kitsap County District Courts has jurisdiction over misdemeanors and gross misdemeanor crimes. These crimes carry a maximum penalty of one (1) year in jail and/ or a $5,000 fine. The most common criminal charges include Domestic Violence (DV), Assault, and Theft. Criminal Traffic charges like Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUI) and Driving While License Suspended (DWLS) are filed into this Court. Traffic infractions including speeding, license tabs charges and equipment violations are also heard in this Court.
